Size charts and the right Russian size: help shoppers pick the right fit
A poor fit is one of the most common reasons for returns in fashion. Commbot writes the correct Russian size on every size card based on the brand's label and fills the card's Ozon size chart with the Russian size, the label size and body measurements.
Sizes of Turkish and European brands differ from the Russian system: a European 38 is a Russian 44. If a card shows the wrong Russian size, the shopper gets an item one size too small or too large and returns it. And if a card has no size chart, Ozon shows a generic chart for the product type, which may contradict your card. Commbot converts each size from the brand's label by fixed rules and fills the card's size chart itself.
How it works
- Letter sizes: for women XS 40, S 42, M 44, L 46, XL 48; for men XS 44, S 46, M 48, L 50, XL 52.
- Numeric sizes: 6 is added to the European size (38 → 44); the rule is the same for women and men.
- Shoes: the Russian size is one below the European size (38 → 37); the brand's own size is also shown on the card as the manufacturer size.
- Size chart: for every size, the card's Ozon size chart lists the Russian size, the label size and chest, waist and hip measurements (foot length for shoes). If the brand provides it, the height of the model in the photo and the size they wear are added as a note, and Ozon's measuring guide is included.
- At upload and every day: new cards are created with their chart; in stores running with full automation, cards missing a chart are completed daily. An existing chart is never overwritten.
- No guessing: a size without a certain Russian equivalent (for example an age size or an unknown label) is not sent to Ozon, and no chart is written to a card whose Russian size contradicts its label.
What it affects
- Size selection: shoppers see the Russian size on the card, with the brand's label next to it as the manufacturer size.
- Size chart: the chart on the product page matches the card's own sizes exactly, with no conflict with Ozon's generic chart.
- Wrong labels: sizes without a known equivalent are never listed, so shoppers cannot order a wrongly labelled size.
- Returns: the goal is to prevent the wrong size mapping that leads to "did not fit" returns.
Added later
- September 24: cards opened under the old rules were checked one by one at night: the Russian size shoppers see was compared with the source label, mismatches were fixed and every fix was confirmed by reading it back from Ozon.
- October 8: items labelled "one size" are listed as a single size ("универсальный") only for accessories such as scarves, hats, gloves and belts.
- October 10: double sizes such as XS-S or M-L are listed on one card with two Russian sizes (for example 40 and 42).
Tips for better results
- The measurements in the chart are not the brand's garment measurements; they are the body measurements Ozon uses for that Russian size, and the chart says so. Mention this if a shopper asks about the garment's own dimensions.
- Do not change a card's size by hand on Ozon: Commbot knows the label's equivalent, and if a manually changed size contradicts the label, no chart is written to that card.
- Sizes without a certain equivalent are not listed, so some products may not show every size on the card; this prevents selling under a wrong label.
